Ephemeral art includes artefacts, objects or decorations not built to last, created for festive occasions such as weddings or political or religious occasions. In this case they provide an insight into the life of the Portuguese royal court, from the Renaissance to the end of the 19th-century. It includes triumphal arches, pavilions and allegorical chariots commissioned from prominent artists of the time. This is the first exhibition of ephemeral art ever mounted in Portugal.

The country's leading association for rare dog breeds holds a two-day exhibition/show on the grounds of the National Mall, a festival that should delight and unite dog lovers from all walks of life. Every spring Boston's Museum of Fine Arts welcomes professional florists into its galleries to welcome the warm weather with an artistically oriented flower show. And this year, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Art In Bloom program, 26 florists have been asked to create floral arrangements that interpret various masterpieces in the Museum's collection, including John Singer Sargent's Daughters of Edward Darley Boit and Paul Revere's Sons of Liberty Bowl.

This years 'Stars on Ice' tour marks Olympic champion Scott Hamilton's farewell. Since Hamilton founded 'Stars on Ice' in 1986, it has become America's premier skating show. Tonight, 12 of the most notable stars in the sport will entertain South Florida fans. Joining Hamilton will be fellow Olympic gold-medalists Tara Lipinski, Kristi Yamaguchi, Ilia Kulik, as well as four-time World Champion Kurt Browning.

In the culinary wasteland of the 2nd district, the Schöne Perle is quite a find. This airy spacious watering hole conserves the essentials of a good Viennese Beisl - no-nonsense drop-in places offering fine beer, the daily papers and hearty main courses - but with a touch of PoMo cool. Owner Georg Aichmayr has made subtle amendments to the classic Beisl pork and dumplings repertoire with the odd wink towards the Mediterranean. A magnificent Italian billiard table at the far end is the only piece of clutter in the place.

10,000 works are submitted by artists of all styles and standards -
from members of the Royal Academy to enthusiastic amateurs - and judged
by a panel of eminent Academicians. The thousand or so entries on show
are usually something of an artistic hotchpotch but interesting
nonetheless.
