D'Angelo
This retro-soul maestro first shot to stardom with his début album 'Brown Sugar.' A tough, uncompromising look at gritty street life, it dealt with sex, poverty and violence in a witty and poignant way. Influenced by the great artists of the early-1970s like Marvin Gaye, Al Green and Stevie Wonder, he is not a poseur like some of his contemporaries but an authentic wordsmith with a wry look at the dark side of African-American life. Tonight, he comes to South Florida to perform from his latest album, 'Voodoo'.
