Beethoven Klaviersonaten

The Klangbogen Wien 2000 summer festival includes performances of Beethoven's complete 32 piano sonatas by nine young pianists in the Beethoven-Saal of the Baroque Palais Palffy. Representing the true origins of the solo piano genre, the sonata season kicks off with the first three Sonatas performed by Paul Gulda, son of the famous classical and jazz pianist Friedrich Gulda who died earlier this year. Other recommended concerts include that of Austrian Roland Batik who takes on Sonatas 18-22. A fine opportunity to hear Beethoven's most touching pieces in an incomparable historic setting.

Oh No, The Modulator!

An evening of transatlantic electronica with Canadian experimentalists Oh No, The Modulator! starts off the post-summer vacation live programme at rhiz, Vienna's first address for electronic squeaks and frequency manipulation. Should the aural assault become too much to bear, relief can be found outside on the terrace, a popular spot with the city's music buffs. The evening kicks off with a performance by local politically-driven funksters lo-res, who are extremely active in the campaign against the far right coalition which currently governs Austria.
